A Weave Along…

A WAL is a group of people who will work on the same project idea or same pattern,
but in their own homes, using their own tools and supplies.  This is your individual
project, you keep the end results.

It is the same idea as a workshop.  In a workshop, you pack-up your supplies and
drive to a predetermined location.  With a WAL, participation is through e-mail and
photo sharing in our *MAWS Yahoo Group.  All the work is in the privacy of your own
home.  You can attend in your pajamas if you like!

A WAL also gives you an opportunity to venture into areas you may not have gone.
The fun of  a WAL is that you get to share your love of weaving with other MAWS
members, while getting to know them all better.  Please sign-up today to get started
with our WAL   We are fortunate enough to have Daryl Ries to guide us in our first
WAL project that she has prepared in advance.  I will let her describe what she has
planned for us all:

                                         MAWS WEAVE ALONG
                         TOPIC: COLOR AND WEAVE EFFECT
                         MENTOR: DARYL RIES, GREAT FALLS
INCLUSIVE DATES: FEBRUARY 11 THROUGH JUNE 22, 2008

This study group will be accomplished online through the Yahoo Web site and
supported by MAWS. By the start date instructions, a posted sample, and a reference
sheet will be posted. The experience is open to current MAWS members with a sign
up deadline of February 18. Other MAWS members may "lurk" as the study
commences and samples are posted. Members who sign on will be expected to study
"color and weave" readings, to plan a project using the principles, and to produce a
sample for posting online. Additionally, the group will develop a display table at the
MAWS conference in Helena which will include your actual woven sample, your
weaving instructions, and a brief discussion of how and why your sample meets
criteria as "color and weave." Participants at MAWS conference will be afforded the
opportunity to evaluate all of our samples and provide brief written evaluation which
we will then post on the Yahoo site for all to read. The benefit of such a study group
is the ease of communication and the stress-free learning environment of your own
home and your own schedule. Join us for this fun event!

The mentor for this study group will be Daryl Ries who will post instructions, pose
questions, and participate with each of the members in discussions about our work.
Daryl completed the "Color and Weave Module" for the Master’s Certificate from the
Handweavers, Spinners, and Dyers of Alberta in 2007.
Daryl set up a WAL (weave a long)
booth at the MAWS conference
2008.
